the burden of knowledge

My daughter came to me and asked me how to spell "violets".  Busy, I handed her a book and told her to look it up.

Later, in her meticulous six-year-old crayon handwriting, she brought me this poem:

Roses or Re

d viola odoratas' or blue shoogr

is sweet and soor yoo

And of course, I laughed, and hugged her, and made a mental note:  When it's a six-year-old asking, get your books from lower on the bookshelf.
