hand-me-downs

Every mother of more than one child knows that when her older children grow out of their clothes,

The wise thing to do is wash and fold them, and put them away for the younger children to use. That when the younger children grow out of them, they should be given away to other mothers.  This is financially, environmentally, and in all other ways, prudent.

I like prudence.  I like it very much.  But it would seem that my little boys are out to thwart me.

They come back in the house naked and I distractedly dress them again.  Then they go back out...

I find their clothing, weeks later, gritty and sunbleached, abandoned in some corner.

Until finally they have no clothing in their dressers at all, and end up naked, like they wanted to be all along.

And I wonder...

Is "hand-me-downs" something that mothers of little girls do?

Lol, so funny and adorable!

I only have one daughter so I don't hand her clothes down, but I do recycle them as much as possible - cutting them up and sewing them into new clothes, or cushion covers, or quilts, or rags. Anything that can't be repurposed in this way goes into the charity box. Very little actually gets thrown away.

You have a beautiful, tranquil weblog.
