a bucket of warm water, soap, and a towel

I was sitting with my brother at a family reunion, trying to convince him to write all his stories of his attempts to "break in" to the music industry.  I happened to make the comment, "You know, like James Herriot."  His blank look floored me.  I hadn't known there was anyone in the world who didn't know about James Herriot.

If you, like my brother, are unacquainted with James Herriot, I tell you you must go and get this book:

and read it.

Because a man who can take a life full of messy animal births and turn it into a book full of stories that'll make you wipe your eyes with laughter is definitely worth reading.  Out loud.  To someone who can laugh with you.  You won't even have to roll up your sleeves and soap up your arm.

Go now.  Really.  You're welcome.

They are great books. I enjoyed them once upon a time, and our family watched the TV shows, maybe on BBC? You might can get the recordings at a library. I think I've seen them. Maybe not DVDs though!

I LOVE James Herriot!! I remember watching All Creatures Great & Small when I was a kid and reading the books later.
